Harbourside Community Walk

Sunday 23rd September 2007

President Tony Pawley greeting the Mayor and Mayoress of Poole (Councillor Jeff and Mrs Rosemary Allen) with event organiser Past President John Duckenfield, at the start of the walk in at Upton Country Park.

The Club held its second Harbourside Community Walk on Sunday 23 September with more than double the number of entrants as last year. The walk began at Upton Country Park where the walkers were accompanied along the first part of the walk by the Mayor and Mayoress of Poole (Councillor Jeff and Mrs Rosemary Allen).

From Upton the walk took its route along Holes Bay and then past the RNLI building to the Quay and continuing on

to Baiter Park, the half way finishing point. The majority of the walkers then continued along to the seven mile finish at Sandbanks Car Park where they were presented with their certificates by Past President John Duckenfield.

Other members of the Club provided transport, for the walkers, back to the starting point.

Many of those who took part expressed their pleasure at having taken part and that they hoped the event would be repeated.

Until all the walkers have collected in their sponsorship money, it will not be known how much has been raised for the charities that they were supporting, but already it is known that over £300 has been raised. Twenty percent of the money raised will go to the Rotary Club of Poole’s Charity Account and will be used to help Poole Harbour Challenge, which aims to introduce disadvantaged children in the Borough to dinghy sailing in the safe environment of Poole Harbour.
